CAIR-MA Coordinates Response to Anti-Refugee Event
On Monday, February 22nd, CAIR-Massachusetts coordinated the response to a planned anti-Syrian-refugee press conference at the Rhode Island State House. The event, slated to feature former and current elected officials, as well as the leader of a Boston-based anti-Muslim hate group, was met by fierce opposition from nearly 200 students, members of the clergy, and activists, who drowned out their messages of hatred with ones of unity and inclusion (see news coverage here and here).
CAIR-Massachusetts also held a press conference in support of Syrian and Muslim refugees later in the afternoon: speakers included a Rhode Island State Senator and Representative, the Executive Minister of the Rhode Island Council of Churches, a leading local rabbi, the Executive Director of a Rhode Island refugee resettlement agency, and several Syrian community leaders.
